Change Ownership
Legislation requires a strict procedure for changing ownership of an animal from one individual to another. If you wish to either relinquish ownership of an existing animal or apply for ownership of a new animal you must complete a change of ownership form. It must be signed by both parties and faxed to the number displayed on the form.
Please be aware that there is a strict process we must follow to legally change ownership of an animal.
Before you contact us, please consider the following points:
- Are you certain that the animals details are recorded on the National Pet Register?
- Do you have an National Pet Register tag number or microchip paperwork with our details on it? (remember that there are other microchip registers in Australia).
- Please provide microchip and / or tag numbers in your email.
- Please advise us if you are the previous owner of the animal (ie. you are giving away or selling the animal) or if you are the new owner.
- If the animal has already gone to the new owner, or if new owners details are known, please provide the new owner’s details (name and telephone numbers are mandatory, postal and street details are optional to be provided at this stage).
If you would like to proceed to change the ownership of an animal, please contact the National Pet Register support line on 03 9329 2755.
